WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Empowering Women Through Health, Safety & Dignity
A closer look at how Omsamarthan Foundation is supporting women in underserved communities through healthcare access, hygiene awareness, self-defence training, and essential welfare initiatives.
Introduction
At Omsamarthan Foundation, women’s empowerment is at the heart of our mission for community development. Across many underserved communities, women continue to face barriers to healthcare, menstrual hygiene, safety, and access to basic resources. These challenges often remain invisible, leaving women without the support they need to live healthy, secure, and dignified lives.
Our initiatives are built around addressing these realities through direct action. From organising health camps and sanitary awareness sessions to providing self-defence training and essential support, our goal has always been to create practical and lasting impact. By focusing on women’s health, confidence, and well-being, we aim to strengthen not just individuals, but entire families and communities.
Promoting Menstrual Hygiene & Health Awareness
One of the major issues affecting women in low-income communities is the lack of awareness and access to menstrual hygiene products. Social stigma and financial limitations often prevent women and young girls from receiving proper guidance and care.
To address this, Omsamarthan Foundation conducted multiple sanitary awareness sessions in slum communities, where women were educated on menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and preventive care. These sessions were led by healthcare professionals and volunteers, creating safe spaces for open discussion.
Alongside awareness, we distributed sanitary pads to women and adolescent girls, ensuring that knowledge was supported with access to essential hygiene products. These efforts helped improve hygiene practices, reduce stigma, and encourage healthier habits within the community.
Free Medical Camps & Healthcare Support
Understanding that many women in underserved areas do not have access to specialised medical care, we organised free gynecological check-up camps in slum areas. Qualified gynecologists were invited to provide consultations, screenings, and health advice directly within the communities.
These camps focused on addressing common reproductive health concerns, early detection of medical issues, and educating women about the importance of regular check-ups. Many women who had never consulted a doctor before were able to access professional healthcare for the first time.
To further support families during these outreach programmes, we also organised meal distribution drives, ensuring that basic needs were met alongside medical assistance. These initiatives strengthened trust within communities and provided immediate relief to those in need.
Building Confidence Through Self-Defence Training
Empowerment is incomplete without safety. Recognising the importance of personal security and confidence, Omsamarthan Foundation organised self-defence workshops for women and young girls.
Professional trainers were invited to conduct free sessions where participants learned practical self-defence techniques, situational awareness, and ways to respond in unsafe situations. Beyond physical skills, these sessions were designed to build confidence, courage, and mental preparedness.
In addition to formal training, we also facilitated small community discussions on women’s rights, personal safety, and the importance of standing against violence and discrimination. These conversations helped create awareness and encouraged women to support one another.
Creating Lasting Change
Women’s empowerment goes beyond one-day programmes—it is a continuous journey of support, awareness, and action. Through healthcare outreach, sanitary pad distribution, medical camps, meal support, and self-defence training, Omsamarthan Foundation remains committed to improving the lives of women in vulnerable communities.
Every initiative is a step toward a future where women can live with dignity, health, confidence, and equal opportunity. Our work continues with the belief that when women rise, communities rise with them.
